Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 31 July 2008
A1 Team Malaysia, through its charity arm, Outreach, extended support to a fund-raising go-kart event at Shah Alam last week. The team's generosity, alongside that of other local companies and organisations, raised over RM15,000 in cash and kind.
The go kart event was organised by UNOS, Televas and Kelab My-Kart Selangor specifically to raise funds to put orphans and poor children with difficulties in learning, reading and writing from the Yellow House Society of Kuala Lumpur into a special program jointly developed with Dyslexia Association Wilayah Persekutuan.
The Malaysian racing team's contribution to the initiative was three-pronged, with a cash donation which will educate and assist a dyslexic child for a year, donation of the event trophies, and with the kind gesture from one of A1 Team Malaysia's approved suppliers Etika Dairies, children at the event were treated to Dairy Champ condensed milk.
Outreach is a programme introduced by A1 Team Malaysia at the end of 2007, and is devoted to making differences to communities within Malaysia and in small, meaningful ways, to make a difference to the lives of young people. With these goals, the go-kart race was an entirely appropriate event for the team to support.
The event received overwhelming responses from the invited parties. 16 teams were formed, each with 3 members from the participating groups and 1 My-Kart Pro driver. The drivers who participated in the race also went to the effort to collect donations on behalf of Yellow House prior to the race. The contributions gathered will be used to fund special literacy programs for orphans and the poor.
Azrai Razuan, Key Account Manager, A1 Team Malaysia, said of the Outreach involvement with the Yellow House Society, "Inspiring children to realise their dreams and equipping them with the tools, skills and confidence to achieve their goals is a philosophy which A1 Team Malaysia Outreach wholeheartedly supports. If our contributions to this go-kart event have helped to improve the life of just one child it will have been worthwhile."
Law Gin Kye, President of Yellow House Society said of the event, "Education is fundamental in empowering the poor to break the cycle of poverty. We are very grateful that so many people have come together to provide the opportunity for our children to gain literacy and the ability to learn. With the generous contributions from this charity race, we will be able to help more children to reach their full potential."
Yellow House Society of Kuala Lumpur, a registered non-profit organisation, focuses on promoting equal opportunity for children from diverse backgrounds, cultures and capacities, particularly children from poor communities, orphanages and those with special needs.
