WHAT WAS A1 TEAM MALAYSIA?
A1 Team (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd based in Kuala Lumpur, was set up to compete in the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport.
A1 Team Malaysia competed at all the events in the four seasons of A1GP since the inaugural race at Brands Hatch in September 2005, to the final race which also took place at Brands Hatch in May 2009.
A1 Team Malaysia was the first Malaysian motorsport team to compete for the pride of the nation of Malaysia on a global platform.
The team is proud to be able to state that it recruited its own team members, rather than contract in the services of established racing teams, and embarked upon a significant development programme for Malaysian drivers, mechanics, engineers and marketing support staff.
A1 Team Malaysia was a major platform for the promotion of Malaysian brands, products and services on a global platform via the powerful medium of international motorsport.
WHAT WAS THE A1GP WORLD CUP OF MOTORSPORT?
A1GP was the first opportunity in any area of motorsport for nations to compete on a level playing field. It was a racing series in which technology and innovation were deliberately equalised and where performance was determined by bravery, skill and excellence. The team and driver combined to create their advantage and the winning nation raised its flag in celebration.
A1GP was more than just another motorsport phenomenon; it's an entirely new sport - The A1GP World Cup of Motorsport - pitting driver against driver and country against country for the first time in history. A1GP brought together 25 nations representing 80 per cent of the world's population to actively compete on a level playing field.
A1GP created a new medium for national and international brands and organisations to promote themselves on a global scale. Through the "World Cup of Motorsport", they joined forces with their national teams to be part of this unique sporting event.
The A1GP World Cup of Motorsport, which promoted countries and utilised the national patriotism instilled in every person on the planet, not only attracted traditional motorsport and sporting fans but excited anyone who was passionate about their heritage, country and population.
An A1GP event was a fast, exciting, adrenaline-fuelled weekend of entertainment in a glamorous and exclusive environment. It was affordable and accessible to all the family. With three days of on-track action, which included practice, qualifying and two races, an A1GP event offered a rare opportunity for fans to interact with teams and drivers. Taking in a mix of established world-famous venues, exciting new state-of-the-art facilities and twisty street circuits, A1GP delivered high-speed action at every turn.
