    DRIVERS

A1 GP Worldcup of Motorsport requires the participating drivers to hold an International Class B licence.

Malaysia is fortunate to have three drivers with such a qualification, Fairuz Fauzy, Aaron Lim and Alex Yoong.

Fairuz FauzyFairuz FAUZY is available to represent A1 Team Malaysia in the 2008/09 season.

Fairuz has his roots in karting starting from the tender age of 8 and has won numerous karting titles in national and international competitions.

He expanded his racing experience by travelling to Europe in the year 2000 with stints in Formula Ford and Formula Renault before a serious 3 year campaign in the British Formula 3 championship.

He campaigned in the national class of the British Formula 3 championship in 2002 before graduating to the championship class in 2003 and 2004.

His notable achievements were 5 podium finishes in National Class British F3, 2nd position in British F3 Championship in 2004, a win and two podiums in GP2 Asia and a podium in the World Series by Renault.

Having raced in GP2 and GP2 Asia in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and served as a test driver for the Spyker F1 Team in 2007, Fairuz is one of the finest drivers in his peer group hail from Malaysia.  His campaign in A1GP 2008/09 got off to a superb start with two podium finishes at the opening event of season 4 at Zandvoort in the Netherlands.

Aaron LimAaron LIM, 22, started his motor racing career in national karting championships and in 2004 represented his country at the Asian Karting Championship in Macau, dominating from the outset, claiming a new lap record, and taking victory by over 3 seconds. He moved to the scholarship class of the Formula BMW Asian series in 2005, and, despite a minimal budget and missing four rounds of racing, he notched up five top five finishes and two third place podiums.

In 2006, he continued with his motorsport education, competing in the Championship class of the Formula BMW Asian series finishing fifth overall. His success included a second place finish and five other top five finishes. In 2007 Lim graduated to a limited season in the Formula Renault V6 Asia Series, being on the podium in all the races in which he entered. Aaron is currently the rookie driver for A1 Team Malaysia.

Alex YOONG is Malaysia's only race driver to reach F1 when he was contracted with Minardi F1 team for the end of the 2001 World Championship season.

His 15 races in Formula 1 in 2001 and 2002 yielded a best result of 7th in the 2002 Australian Grand Prix and 10th in the 2002 French Grand Prix.

His racing career started in 1991 aged 15. He has seen many wins and podiums from domestic racing in Malaysia to Formula 3000 enroute to Formula 1 and A1GP.

Notable achievements are 8 wins in Formula Asia, a second in British Formula 3 in 1998, a second in the European Formula 3000 in 1998, a second in the Monaco Historic F1 Grand Prix in 2002, a win in the Macau Grand Prix Porsche Carrera Cup Asia race and wins in A1GP.

Alex has achieved 4 race wins in A1GP and is the only driver thus far to have started more than 50 races in the series.  As well as driving, Alex is a regular guest speaker and commentator for major TV networks covering motorsport events.
